Notes for Arthur J. Grainger:

The information I have pertaining to Arthur Grainger and Hannah was provided by Gale Stanley Grainger and Doris (Peggy) Grainger Taylor, both decendants of George Morrow Grainger.

From Peggy Taylor: : "According to Zula Grainger Whitaker Vick in 1992. Zula is George Morrow's grand daughter and remembers sitting in his lap and playing with the buttons of his Civil War coat. (I have not been able to confirm CSA service records). As of 2000 she is in a nursing home in Charlston SC, although I spoke with her on the phone as late as 1999. Arthur had been burried under a ceder tree where he had a tree stand, about 2 miles from Zoe Ann Church in Horry County. She also recited the names of all the children which were George Morrow (my great grandfather), Alfred (who possibly lived in FL), Neal, Henry (who had seizures and drowned), Caroline, Daniel, and Herman D. who was a preacher and was shot in the back while he was plowing his field. Hannah is buried in Zoe Ann church cemetary. George Morrow and Herman D. married sisters, Helon (not Helen), and Sarah."

Note: Zula was a sister to Dallas Wagner Grainger, Peggy Taylor's father.

From Peggy Taylor: "I understand that there is still a Grainger reunion held at Myrtle Beach State Park every September."

Note from Howard Smith: Changed the name of Herman D. to Harmon D. with Peggy's agreement.

        768.  Thomas Cody

Notes for Thomas Cody:

There are no legal documents to prove Thomas was the father of Pierce. Extensive research by others over many years point to Thomas as the immigrant, (sponsored and immigrated to VA in 1650 as listed in the book of Head Rights), and the progenitor of the Southern Codys.

The Southern Codys do not appear to be directly related to the William (Buffalo Bill) Cody immagrants of Massachucets. They were from France, and the Southern Codys were from Ireland. There is a  French influence in Ireland from many many centuries ago, however the region our Codys are supposedly from suggest they are of Celtic origin. The name Cody may have transformed from the name Mc Odo in the Kilkenny County area where many Codys are found. The given names of Pierce, Thomas, Steven, James,  and Gabriel, are also common given names in the region.
